ANNAPOLIS RESIDENCE
This 10-acre wooded estate located south of Annapolis was originally purchased in 1979 with the intention of creating a multigenerational retreat. Conceived as a long-term vision for a future heritage home, the property reflects both personal legacy and a deep respect for its natural surroundings.
Site Strategy & Master Plan
Menassa Architecture developed a master plan that responds to environmental constraints and limited building footprints by distributing program elements across the site. Rather than a single mass, the estate is composed of a main residence, detached garage, barn, pool and deck, greenhouse, and pergola structures, each element is carefully positioned in dialogue with one another, engaging the surrounding terrain.
Outdoor living is central to the design, with terraces, gathering areas, and waterfront spaces extending daily life into the landscape and strengthening the connection to the Chesapeake Bay ecosystem.
Main Residence
The home is designed as a continuous, open living environment where kitchen, dining, and living areas flow together with material consistency and warm wood tones throughout. Long views to the landscape are emphasized, reinforcing the relationship between interior spaces and their natural surroundings.
A sculptural entry stair creates a moment of arrival, while the fireplace wall and kitchen are aligned to organize the open plan around a clear central axis of gathering, light, and movement. The result is a restrained, cohesive residence defined by its connection to the landscape and its emphasis on clarity and flow.
